The Only Ghost I Need Is the Holy Ghost: How Jesus Kept Me Through It All

The Only Ghost I Need Is the Holy Ghost: A Testimony of Being Kept by Jesus

I don’t personally celebrate Halloween, but I created this shirt for Halloween for a very different reason: I wanted to shine the light of Jesus.

The words on this shirt say, “The Only Ghost I Need Is the Holy Ghost.”

To some, it may simply look like a fun fall design. But to me, these words carry a much deeper meaning.

I know what it means to be broken. I know what it means to walk through things that people may never fully understand. I’ve experienced pain, loss, disappointment, betrayal, heartbreak, and seasons that brought me to places I never thought I would be.

There are things I’ve gone through that, unless you walked through them with me, you simply wouldn’t understand. People see me still standing today, but they don’t always see the hell I had to walk through to get here.

They don’t see the nights I cried.

They don’t see the moments I felt like giving up.

They don’t see the battles I fought behind closed doors.

But Jesus saw every single one.

And He kept me.

When I was broken, Jesus kept me.

When I was hurting, Jesus kept me.

When I felt alone, Jesus kept me.

When I didn’t know how I was going to make it, Jesus kept me.

When I had nothing left to give, He gave me strength.

Looking back over my life, I know one thing for certain: I’m not still standing because I was strong enough to make it through everything.

I’m still standing because Jesus was strong enough to carry me when I couldn’t carry myself.

That is why this shirt is so personal to me.

“The Only Ghost I Need Is the Holy Ghost.”

It’s more than a catchy phrase. It’s a declaration.

I created this shirt with Halloween in mind because I know this is a season when people will be out in their communities, attending events, celebrating, and wearing all kinds of things.

And I thought, what if I could put something into that space that points people toward Jesus?

What if someone sees this shirt and it makes them smile?

What if someone asks what it means? What if it starts a conversation?

What if someone who is hurting sees those words and is reminded that there is a God who can keep them?

That’s why I made it.

Not to judge anyone.

Not to condemn anyone.

But to shine.

Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

I want this shirt to be a little light.

Because I know what it feels like to be in the dark.

I know what it feels like to wonder if you’re ever going to get through something.

And I know what it feels like to look back and realize that the very thing I thought would destroy me did not get the final word.

Jesus did.

I’m still here.

Still standing.

Still believing.

Still praising.

Still choosing Jesus.

There are still things I’m walking through. There are still things I’m praying about. There are still things I don’t understand.

But after everything I’ve been through, I can still say:

Jesus kept me.

He has been faithful.

He has never left me.

And if He could carry me through the things I thought would break me, I believe He can carry you too.

So when you see this shirt, I hope you see more than pumpkins, colors, and a cute fall design.

I hope you see a testimony.

A testimony of a girl who was broken but not destroyed.

A testimony of someone who went through hell and is still standing.

A testimony of the faithfulness of God.

The Only Ghost I Need Is the Holy Ghost.

And after everything I’ve been through, I can say it with my whole heart:

Jesus is the reason I’m still standing.
